Cooking Instructions

The Classic Method:

Step 1: Bring 21⁄2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan set over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, rinse 1 cup of black (or red) rice under cool water. (For a softer texture, soak the rice in cool water for an hour prior to cooking).

Step 2: When the water reaches
a boil, add the rice (or add butter and salt – optional). Reduce to a simmer, cover, and leave to cook until tender for about 30-40 minutes.

Step 3: Remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork, then cover it again with the lid. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Fluff rice again and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container once cooled.
